Previous technology had only allowed scientists to view neural networks by thin slices of the brain at a time. This made constructing a complete image of the brain and its connections nearly impossible.
Karl Deisseroth and his team at Stanford University have created a groundbreaking method of brain imaging that allows scientists to image the whole brain or large blocks of it. This new method is called CLARITY, and it enables detailed images from the outside to deep inside the brain.
